Unity Technology, a software development company and graphics engines for apps and video games, has announced the acquisition of Weta Digital. It is the historic 3D animation and effects company co-founded by Peter Jackson, the author of Avatar and The Lord of the Rings. A $ 1.625 billion deal, which will allow Unity to work on Weta's VFX (visual effect) technologies and lay the foundation for the metaverse.

The senior vice president and general manager of Unity Create (Marc Whitten) wrote on the company's blog "It will take some time to shape this vision, but consider it the first step".
