Although it’s been over two decades since the first time dinosaurs ruled the world on screen in 1993's Jurassic Park, the franchise isn't extinct yet.

It's only been 19 months since the latest film Jurassic World Dominion hit the theaters, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide in 2022. The film seemed like the end of the Jurassic era with the original stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum reunited as Jurassic Park's Ellie, Alan, and Ian for one last battle.
Therefore fans were shocked to hear when The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a new Jurassic World film was in development. However, it has been confirmed that the new film will be a complete reboot with a new storyline and the start of a new Jurassic era, possibly meaning we can expect a new trilogy in the franchise.
According to several sources, David Koepp is writing the script and is already far along in the process. Koepp wrote the original Jurassic Park and the sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997. No director is yet on board for the project, but producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who worked on the last three films, will return, alongside Steven Spielberg who will serve as executive producer.
The casting has not been revealed to this day but rumors say we can't expect the Jurassic World cast members including Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard to make a comeback. The film has not yet begun production but is rumored to premiere as soon as 2025, but Universal has not confirmed the film's potential release date. We expect to have more details soon.
It will be interesting to see how the franchise takes a new direction. The upcoming film will be the seventh in the Jurassic franchise. Life finds a way - and so will the Jurassic films too.
