Anne Hathaway Credits Christopher Nolan With Saving Her Career

Anna Hathaway is set to appear in her third Christopher Nolan film, expressing to Women’s Wear Daily that it makes her feel she's doing something right. She previously starred in "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Interstellar." Hathaway joins a cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron in Nolan's new secretive project, following his Oscar-winning "Oppenheimer."

"I have so many feelings about it that I don’t even know how to articulate," Hathaway told WWD about her third Nolan film. "It fills me with joy. I love Chris and Emma Nolan, and being part of their world is one of the best places. Being invited twice felt significant, and three times seemed greedy, so I never hoped for it. The fact that it has happened makes me emotional and makes me feel like I’m doing something right." Earlier this year, Hathaway told Vanity Fair that she credits Nolan with reviving her career after public backlash during the Oscar season for “Les Miserables.” She faced online ridicule and recalled finding an article titled: “Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?” after winning the Oscar.

Hathaway shared with Vanity Fair that many were hesitant to offer her roles due to negative online perceptions of her identity. However, Christopher Nolan overlooked this and cast her as Dr. Amelia Brand in "Interstellar," which she described as a pivotal and supportive moment in her career. She told WWD that being part of "Interstellar" was energizing and rejuvenating, calling it a career highlight and a safe, thrilling space as both an actor and a person.

Hathaway isn’t the only actor thrilled about joining Nolan’s new film. Tom Holland shared on “Good Morning America” that receiving the offer to star in the movie was a “once-in-a-lifetime” phone call, saying: “It reminded me of when I got the call about ‘Spider-Man’ 10 years ago. It’s an incredible opportunity for me. I’m extremely proud and really, really excited.”

Nolan is both writing and directing the new film, which Universal Pictures will release in theaters on July 17, 2026. The untitled project is anticipated to begin filming in early 2025.
