James Cameron reports that the avatar franchise won’t be stopping anytime soon with Cameron having ideas for Avatar 6 and 7.
The highest grossing films of all time, Avatar, which released in 2009 had a sequel released in the backend of 2022. Which made over 2 billion dollars gross.
The 5th instalment of Avatar has a scheduled release date of 2031. Which could mean avatar 7 could be released towards the end of 2040.
The Terminator 2 and Titantic director is currently working on the post production for Avatar 3 which is planned to release in 2025.
In an interview with ‘The People’ Cameron said this about his beloved Avatar franchise:
“We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people.”
The billion dollar franchise has suffered a massive setback however. The next 3 sequels were planned to be released in 2024, 2026, and 2028, however Disney decided to spread them apart with Avatar 3 being released on December 19th 2025, Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031.
