“Bob Marley: One Love” Vs “Madame Web”

Yasmine LAMNANI-IDRISSI

Down under, Bob Marley's musical vibes are beating superhero struggles at the global Box Office. In its opening frame, Paramount's "Bob Marley: One Love" achieved a Global Box Office success with an estimated $80M, surpassing expectations. The biopic, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, opened in 47 overseas markets, earning $29M internationally. The film jammed its way to the number one spot in 13 markets and set new opening-day records for a music biopic in the UK and France. Notably, it is the second biggest music biopic opening, trailing only "Bohemian Rhapsody." The top five markets include the UK, France, Australia, Germany, and Brazil.

On the other hand, Sony’s "Madame Web" made its overseas debut, collecting $25.7M from 61 markets and achieving an estimated $51.5M global launch. The film secured No. 1 positions in 29 markets, with the UK and Mexico leading at $2.9M each, but faced a 13% Rotten Tomatoes rating. France debuted at $1.6M. The movie is set to release in Japan, China, and Korea through March. Despite the global launch, the financial impact is expected to be mitigated by Sony's lucrative international TV output deals and Netflix agreement.

So, whether you're vibing to reggae rhythms or caught in the web of a superhero saga, the global Box Office is proving to be a lively stage where music and Marvel compete for the audience's applause. Keep your popcorn ready for the next blockbuster battle!
