Having risen to fame as one of Hollywood's top stars, Cameron Diaz took a break from the spotlight in 2014. A decade later, she is now gearing up for a comeback, opening up to the Hollywood Reporter about her choice to step back and make a return.
In 2014, Diaz retired from acting after her final role in Annie. At Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit, she explained that stepping back was essential for her to prioritize her well-being and pursue the life she truly desired, free from outside influences. In the last decade, Diaz married Benji Madden from Good Charlotte and had two children, Raddix and Cardinal. She also co-founded the Avaline wine brand with Katherine Power in 2020.
Diaz returns to film with Netflix's Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx in January 2025. She will also appear in Shrek 5 and is in talks for Outcome with Keanu Reeves.
"The timing was perfect for my family after being at home for a long time due to Covid. While others thought the pandemic was over, I felt differently," Diaz shared about her return to Hollywood. "Motivated by my husband's support, we decided it was my turn to pursue my goals. He encouraged me with the words, 'Show me what you've got, girl,' to which I replied, 'Alright, let's do this.'" She mentioned that she couldn't refuse Jamie's invitation to work on their third film together for Netflix, as they had collaborated on "Annie" and "Any Given Sunday" before.
