After making a surprising and unforgettable cameo in this summer's R-rated (and newly Golden Globes nominated) mutant mash-up Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems Chris Evans isn't quite ready to end his association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet. As reported by Deadline, Evans is set for a reunion with his Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame co-star Robert Downey Jr. and directors The Russo Brothers in the upcoming Multiverse Saga film Avengers: Doomsday.
Similar to the movie's plot, the details of Evans' role in Doomsday are currently undisclosed — and with the multiverse, there's certainly no lack of possibilities. According to Deadline, sources indicate that Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson will be Captain America in the ensemble film, making it unlikely, though not impossible, for Evans to don the Captain America suit once more. However, he could still reprise his role as Steve Rogers, whom we last saw as an elderly man at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, having lived a fulfilling life with his wartime love Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). There's also the chance that, after recently entertaining us by reprising a more foul-mouthed Johnny Storm than ever before in Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans might decide to "Flame on!" again just for fun — although knowing that the MCU's First Family from The Fantastic Four: First Steps will appear in Doomsday makes this unlikely. Additionally, Evans could potentially appear as a completely different character from Marvel's vast universe — after RDJ's casting as Doctor Doom, anything is possible!
For now, all we know is that Deadline has repeatedly informed us to expect many original MCU core cast members to appear as the Multiverse Saga reaches its climax; that Anthony and Joe Russo — the directors of our Top 3 MCU films and, with Endgame, the creators of the second highest-grossing movie ever — will be directing the film; and that on 1 May, 2026, we'll be excited, seated, and ready for whatever Avengers: Doomsday has prepared.
