Drew Hancock’s Companion has emerged as one of the year’s biggest surprises, outperforming initial expectations and maintaining strong momentum at the box office. According to Collider, the horror-comedy starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher has captivated audiences worldwide, earning $18.7 million domestically and $14.2 million overseas. Despite launching on digital platforms on February 18, 2025, the film remains in theaters and is projected to surpass the $20 million domestic mark by the end of the week.

Currently the sixth highest-grossing film of the year, Companion has held a place in the box office top 10 since its January 31 release. However, with its most recent weekend ranking at tenth place, its theatrical run may soon slow down. Still, its early digital release appears to be a strategic move, given the intense competition from major blockbusters like Captain America: Brave New World, which dominated the most recent box office weekend with over $80 million domestically.

Beyond its financial success, Companion has won over both critics and audiences, boasting a stellar 94% "Certified Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89% audience score. As Hancock’s directorial debut, the film's success suggests a promising future for the filmmaker. In her 8/10 review for Collider, Emma Kiely praised Companion as a dark comedy that expertly balances humor, suspense, and intense gore. With its impressive box office performance and critical acclaim, Companion solidifies itself as one of 2025’s standout films.
