It has been announced that the screenplay for the next Star Wars project that was in the hands of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson will go to Steven Knight, famed writer and director for the BBC crime drama “Peaky Blinders” (2013) and “Locke” (2013) with Tom Hardy as the starring role.
Knight began his career specializing in crime dramas such as “Dirty Pretty Things” (2002) and “Eastern Promises” (2007). He also produced and wrote the famous BBC crime drama “Peaky Blinders”(2013), starring Cillian Murphy.
Lindelof, famous for co-writing the series “Lost” (2004), The Leftovers and Watchmen, began working with Justin Britt Gibson known for “Counterpart” (2017), Into the Badlands (2015) and “Banshee” (2013) to write the Star Wars movie together. Lindelof and Britt-Gibson decided to part ways with Lucasfilm this February, the reasons being unknown.
When the news about this film was first announced in October last year, it was said that Britt-Gibson and Lindelof were to write a standalone Star Wars film, this leading to additional movies if it became a successful film. The film could possibly take place after “Star Wars-The Rise of Skywalker”, the film proving to be the end of The Skywalker Saga since it has been focusing on Disney+ series such as The Mandelorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Andor. With little known facts, more information about the film is to be announced during the Star Wars Celebration in London next month.
