Donald Glover in Talks to Return as Lando Calrissian for New Disney+ Star Wars Series

Donald Glover has revealed in a new interview that he has been in talks with Lucasfilm about returning to the Star Wars universe as Lando Calrissian. Glover first played the role in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which he portrayed a younger version of the character who joins forces with Han Solo to take down a crime boss.

While Glover did not divulge any specific details about the potential project, he confirmed that discussions are underway, saying "We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down." He went on to describe the character of Lando as "charm incarnate" and expressed his love for the role, but also emphasized that any return to the franchise has to be handled carefully and done in the right way.

"I’m not interested in doing anything that’s just gonna be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be," he said.

Back in December 2020, it was announced that Lando would be getting his own series on Disney+, although little has been revealed about the project since then. The show, titled Lando, is said to be in the early stages of development with Dear White People creator Justin Simien attached to the project.

The character of Lando first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, played by Billy Dee Williams, before returning for Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Despite initial rumours of a sequel to Solo, director Ron Howard has suggested that a follow-up is not currently a priority for Lucasfilm.
