The new sci-fi film has taken the top spot, replacing Shawshank Redemption that has held the number one position since 2008.
Set to be the highest grossing film of 2024, Dune part 2 received a rating of an astounding 9.4 on IMDB, the world’s most popular source of film and television content. This rating will likely drop after its actual release but that doesn’t make it any less impressive.
The Warner Brothers picture that reportedly cost $190 million to make, has been praised heavily by critics that went to an early screening of the epic dystopian film. It has also been given a critic score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers have described the film as “The best sci-fi film of the decade” calling it “staggering” and “pure spectacle”.
It is no surprise that the film has been received so well by critics with a cast full of A-listers including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh. And of course, we cannot forget the huge budget and exciting press tour.
The movie, to be released on March 1st is the second installment of the film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s first book with the same title.
The best part is, this will not be the end of the Dune story as director Denis Villeneuve has confirmed he has plans to adapt the next book, Dune Messiah, into a third movie.
