At this year's Cannes Film Festival, an intriguing entry defies conventional genres: a crime-comedy-drama-musical hybrid. Directed by the acclaimed French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, known for his Grand Prix-winning "A Prophet" in 2009, this audacious project bears the title "Emilia Perez."
Cast
The film stars a stellar cast including Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldaña. Its narrative orbits around a woman thrust into the extraordinary task of aiding a Mexican cartel drug lord in undergoing sex reassignment surgery, all in a bid to evade law enforcement.
Schedule Conflicts
Originally slated to commence filming in Mexico during the autumn of 2022, production encountered a six-month delay due to scheduling conflicts among the cast. Subsequently, the decision was made to shift filming locations to France. The bulk of principal photography commenced in May 2023.
Costumes
Adding to the film's allure, the costumes are crafted by none other than Anthony Vaccarello, the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent.
