Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Begin Early Work on ‘Barbie’ Sequel

The iconic world of “Barbie” may soon expand, with Oscar-nominated writers Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach reportedly developing a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo has landed on a story idea for a follow-up to the $1.4 billion-grossing film, though the project remains in its early stages.

While Warner Bros. and the filmmakers have denied the report, insiders suggest that conversations about deals are underway following Gerwig and Baumbach’s creative breakthrough. The pair, who co-wrote the original “Barbie” screenplay, have previously stated they’d only pursue a sequel if. They found a compelling story. 

As for the next steps, Baumbach may begin drafting the script while juggling postproduction on his upcoming Netflix project, while Gerwig is in preproduction for her “Chronicles of Narnia” adaptation.
