Well, that was totally unexpected, wasn’t it? After such a huge box office success, many were seeing a “Dune” sequel coming in the near future. In fact, despite the film ending narratively unconcluded, the director Denis Villeneuve was not entirely sure that his film would have had a chapter 2. He indeed affirmed that “we have to see box office’s results”. But, right after Venice Film Festival premiere and the praises of the critics, its success was already sure. It was only after the first weekend out in American theaters, in which it made more than 41 million dollars, that the producers agreed to make a sequel.
Legendary Pictures posted a picture with the film’s logo on Twitter also writing “This is only the beginning… Thank you to those who have experienced Dune so far, and those who are going in the days and weeks ahead. We’re excited to continue the journey!”
As for now, Dune Part Two release is expected in autumn 2023.
