DC Films announced that filmmaker James Gunn would be directing a new Superman movie titled "Superman: Legacy". Gunn, the chairman and CEO of DC Studios with partner Peter Safran, known for his work on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies and DC's The Suicide Squad, is expected to bring his unique storytelling style to the world of Superman.
While the film's plot details are currently unknown, reports suggest that the project will not be connected to the ongoing DC Extended Universe and will feature an entirely new story and cast of characters. The story will most likely focus on a younger generation of superheroes with a modern take on the character of Superman. Gunn has stated that he wants to tell “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville”, and portray Superman as a character “guided by human kindness in a world that often views kindness as old-fashioned”.
His successful track record with superhero movies has left many excited to see what he will bring to the world of Superman. With a new director and a fresh take on the iconic superhero, "Superman: Legacy" is shaping up to be a highly-anticipated addition to the franchise. Gunn has reportedly said that he aims to release the film on the 11th of July 2025.
