The movie Meg 2: The Trench by Warner Bros continues to impress with numbers, gaining $256.9 million worldwide, which is a very good result compared to the Barbie and Oppenheimer hyped movies, that continue to dominate screens and box office.
Meg 2 came out later this weekend after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ninja Mayhem.
The movie starring Jason Statham is having big and positive feedback overseas, especially in China: this can't come unexpected, since the movie is a co-production between China and U.S. and had its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival, not to mention the many Chinese cast members: Wu Jing, Shuya Sophia Cai, and more.
The film has already almost doubled its budget, which was estimated to be around $130 million, and looks to continue dominating at the Chinese box office.
Meg 2 features Statham once again embodying his character from the original movie, Jonas Taylor. As a seasoned deep-sea diver, Jonas is entrusted with the mission of confronting a pack of ravenous megalodon sharks. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn when an aggressive mining explosion triggers the emergence of a myriad of nightmarish sea creatures from the profound oceanic abyss. The film also stars Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Cliff Curtis, Skylar Samuels, and Sienna Guillory.
Meg 2 was directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris, which was itself based on the 1999 novel The Trench by Steve Alten. The movie is now in theaters.
