Jennifer Garner is making a comeback as Elektra in Deadpool 3, reprising her role as the Marvel Comics' assassin antiheroine after almost two decades, according to multiple sources reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Garner has portrayed Elektra in 20th Century Fox's Daredevil in 2003, starring alongside Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear. While the film didn't achieve commercial success, it led to a spinoff featuring Garner as the lead in Elektra two years later. Although the spinoff also underperformed at the box office, it gained attention for Garner being among the few women leading a studio comic book movie at that time.
The upcoming film, directed by Shawn Levy, will be the first to showcase characters from the Marvel stable that were previously owned by 20th Century Fox. After Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, the movie rights to these characters returned to Marvel.
Garner has also made appearances in the recent Party Down reboot and served as both a lead actress and executive producer for Apple TV+'s limited series The Last Thing He Told Me, which premiered in April. The producers of Deadpool 3 include Marvel's Kevin Feige, Levy, and Reynolds. The script is being worked on by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells.
Marvel could not be reached for comment regarding Garner's return, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. During her initial portrayal of Elektra, Garner simultaneously starred as secret agent Sydney Bristow in ABC's thriller Alias, which aired for 105 episodes from 2001 to 2006. Her recent film credits include the successful 2021 Netflix movie Yes Day and a notable role opposite Reynolds in the sci-fi adventure film The Adam Project, directed by Levy.
