Rob Marshall, the film's director, has stated that he is currently finishing the live-action version of The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey playing Ariel in the upcoming May 26 release. Film has faced its ups and downs, especially when the COVID-19 slowed back the production among other factors that have kept it in development for five years.
Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Noma Dmuezweni as the original figure Queen Selina will join Bailey's Ariel on stage. The screenplay for the movie was written by Oscar-nominated Life of Pi David Magee and Kingsman franchise screenwriter Jane Goldman.
The film, according to Marshall, whose final project as a filmmaker was Mary Poppins Returns in 2018, is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2019. Stay tuned for the upcoming trailer.
