Marvel's Upcoming Blockbuster: What Can Fans Expect from "Captain America: Brave New World"?

Captain America: Brave New World, the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is set to release on February 14, 2025, as part of “Phase Five” of the MCU. The movie's upcoming release comes after a few delays, with the original date set for May 3, 2024, and then July 26, 2024. Directed by Julius Onah, the film is set to reintroduce Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, into Captain America following his rise in Disney+’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.

The film boasts a star-studded cast. Alongside Mackie, Harrison Ford joins the MCU, stepping into the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, otherwise known as the “Red Hulk”. Ford replaces William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross following Hurt’s death. Liv Tyler also reprises her role as Betty Ross, the daughter of Thaddeus Ross and a cellular biologist. Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns, “The Leader”, who was last seen in “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), signaling a long-awaited return of the villain. Shira Haas debuts as “Sabra”, an Israeli superhero, whilst Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly return as Joaquin Torres (the new “Falcon”) and Isaiah Bradley, respectively.

Although plot details remain largely under wraps, it is known that the movie takes place after Thaddeus Ross has been elected as President of the United States. An international incident occurs, and Wilson must stop the masterminds behind it. Unlike his predecessor, Steve Rogers, Wilson does not have the capabilities of a “super-soldier”, and uses Captain America’s shield and wing suit in fights to have similar capabilities. Director Julius Onah said that the film shows Wilson “stepping up to be the leader as Captain America”. “Captain America: Brave New World”, promises to be a meaningful addition to the MCU, showcasing Sam Wilson’s first solo outing as Captain America.
