Actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Ridley Scott are finally working on a project together again after Gladiator in 2000. Now they are working on an upcoming historical epic called “Napoleon”.
The movie is set for a theatrical release by Sony on November 22, 2023. At a later date, it will also be able to be seen on Apple TV+. The cast will consist of stars including Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte, Vanessa Kirby as Empress Joséphine and Matthew Needham.
Apple revealed the first movie footage for “Napoleon” on Monday, during their WWDC 2023 Keynote event. The footage shows Joaquin Phoenix’s character on a large ship, looking rather unsatisfied. In an ad for Apple Vision Pro, there is also footage that shows Phoenix’s character charging into battle on a horse.
The writer of “Napoleon” is David Scarpa. The plot will follow the French military leader, Napoleon. It will show his rise to power, through the lens of his wife, Empress Joséphine. The movie will also capture Napoleon’s famous battles and strategic mind.
Director Ridley Scott is now 85 years old. Nevertheless, the first released footage of the “Napoleon” movie shows that it will be one of his most ambitious and action-packed historical epics yet.
Sony Pictures’ chief Tom Rothman has said that “the film shouts big screen (…)”. When speaking of the director he said that “He can do things cinematically that few, if any, filmmakers half his age can do (…)”.
Despite the director's age, this movie will surely be a success, leaving the viewers stunned.
