Netflix's upcoming horror series is inspired by a podcast of the same name, “Archive 81”, of which the series promises to keep the dark and deeply emotional vibe.
The story will follow Dan Turner (played by Mamoudou Athie), an archivist who takes up the mysterious job of restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994. During the job he needs to reconstruct a documentary by filmmaker Melody Pendras (played by Dina Shihabi): he documentary is about her investigation of a dangerous cult. As Dan is caught up in the spiral of Melody's story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.
Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys”, “The Vampire Diaries”) will serve as showrunner, while James Wan (“Aquaman”, “The Conjuring”) will be an executive producer on the project alongside Paul Harris Boardman (“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”), who is also the writer of the horror series.
“Archive 81” will premiere on Netflix on January 14th, 2022.
