The iconic horror film Nightmare, the first in the series featuring Freddy Krueger, returns to theaters with an innovative 4K UHD version.
In recent years, reboots have taken center stage in cinemas, and now Nightmare is back to impress us in 4K. Wes Craven is mainly remembered as the creator of the “Scream” series, which revolutionized horror by making it an ironic and meta-reflective genre.
However, it is often forgotten that Craven was also the director of titles such as “The Last House on the Left” and “The Hills Have Eyes”, but most importantly, the film that launched one of the scariest and most beloved horror series of all time, centered on the fearsome Freddy Krueger.
Forty years ago, in 1984, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” made its debut in theaters, giving rise to a saga that spawned six sequels (the last of which, Wes Craven's New Nightmare in 1994, was once again directed by Craven), a crossover with Jason Voorhees titled Freddy vs. Jason, and an unsuccessful reboot in 2010 directed by Samuel Bayer.
New version, same fear
Now, finally, the first Nightmare has been restored in 4K UHD, a version that will be available in the international home video market starting in October. To promote this 4K UHD re-release, which will include 8 seconds of previously unseen footage featuring particularly gruesome scenes absent in the current versions, Warner has produced a stunning new trailer. This not only highlights the improved visual quality but also reminds us just how extraordinary Craven's film still is and how vast the gap is between the horror of forty years ago and much of today's productions.
