The departures of Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and director Christopher Landon from the Scream franchise have led Kevin Williamson, the original writer, to reinvent the series with the upcoming Scream 7.
Williamson has brought back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott in the new movie and is rumored to be considering Patrick Dempsey's return as Detective Mark Kincaid to confront Ghostface again.
During an interview on the American morning show TODAY last Thursday, Dempsey discussed the possibility of his character, detective Kincaid, returning in the upcoming Scream movie alongside on-screen wife Neve Campbell. He eagerly awaits the script to confirm Kincaid's comeback, mentioning discussions about the return but no concrete plans yet.
Reports of Dempsey's interest in reprising the Kincaid role in Scream 7, along with Campbell's return and Williamson's increased involvement, hint at a return to the franchise's roots. Courtney Cox negotiating to bring back Gale Weathers, the only character to appear in every Scream movie, promises added excitement, suspense, and bloodshed. The cast lineup and duration of their return will be unveiled at the premiere of Scream 7 on 27 February 2026.
