Ricky Gervais’ statement regarding the 13th remake of “The Office"

The original series of “The Office”, was the hit “The Office: UK”. It became so successful that an adaptation in the US was made. Now the beloved series is waiting for yet another remake in Australia.

This time around, the series will have a female lead. The character of this middle-manager role will be played by the actor and comedian Felicity Ward.

In “The Office: UK” the role was played by Ricky Gervais, who also co-created and co-wrote the two season long series. The US adaptation starred Steve Carell and ran for 9 seasons. “The Office: Australia'' will be the 13th remake of the original show. Other adaptations have been made in countries such as Poland, Canada and Sweden.

The Australian adaption of the series is supposed to be launching in 2024. It is a new adaptation for Prime Video, co-produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios ANZ and Bunya Entertainment.

“The Office: Australia” will be set in a post-Covid present day. It will surround the managing director of the packing company Flinley Craddick, Hannah Howard, (played by Felicity Ward), and how she handles different dilemmas that come up at the branch.

Along with the announcement of “The Office: Australia”, Ricky Gervais made a statement regarding it. He said: “I’m very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century. Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so can’t wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent.”
