"Salem's Lot," originally published in 1975, is Stephen King's second novel and remains one of his most beloved and cited works. This terrifying vampire tale has been adapted for the screen several times: the first was Tobe Hooper's 1979 miniseries in two parts, titled "Salem's Lot," which circulated in Europe as a shortened and combined theatrical version. In 1987, Larry Cohen made "The Vampire's Bite," a sort of sequel to Hooper's miniseries, while in 2004, the dark Mikael Salomon retold the original story in a new miniseries.
Now, "Salem's Lot" returns to the screen in a new version with the blessing of Stephen King himself. This is not a miniseries but a 113-minute film written and directed by Gary Dauberman (screenwriter of Muschietti's "It" and the "Annabelle" series, which he also directed the third film of) simply titled "Salem's Lot." The main cast includes Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Pilou Asbæk, Alfre Woodard, and William Sadler.
For those who may not know, the plot of "Salem's Lot" centers around a writer, Ben Mears, who returns after twenty-five years to his childhood town, the fictional Jerusalem's Lot in Maine, only to find that it has been infested by a vampire turning the population into night creatures like himself. He must then fight with other old friends who remain human against this terrifying threat. This is the official trailer for "Salem's Lot," which will debut in the USA on MAX on October 3 and will surely be available in our country soon.
