Are you prepared for another wild, hilarious ride with your favorite animated food characters? The smash-hit 2016 R-rated animated film "Sausage Party," featuring the voice talents of Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, and a host of other comedy stars, is now spawning a sequel TV series on Prime Video. Titled "Sausage Party: Foodtopia," the series continues the outrageous story of the original movie and brings back much of the original cast, including Rogen (who co-created the series with Evan Goldberg and Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon), Wiig, and Cera.
The trailer for "Sausage Party: Foodtopia" has just dropped, and it’s clear that Rogen, Goldberg, and Vernon have not dialed down the raunchy humor for the TV adaptation. Despite the potential for kids to stumble upon the series and think, "Oh, talking hot dogs, this looks fun!" the show maintains its extremely adult-oriented comedy. In fact, this series might be even more audacious than the film, which is a rarity when movies transition to TV shows. Typically, we see a toning down of edgy content in such adaptations, but "Foodtopia" bucks this trend completely.
The original "Sausage Party" movie was a brainchild of Rogen, Goldberg, and Jonah Hill (who does not appear to be involved in the TV series). It was a surprise box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide on a modest budget of approximately $20 million.
The series are based on the 2016 animated feature "Sausage Party," named "Sausage Party: Foodtopia" and the story follows Frank, Brenda, Barry, and Sammy as they endeavor to construct their own food society.
"Sausage Party: Foodtopia" premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 11. Mark your calendars for what promises to be a hilariously irreverent continuation of the food adventure that started it all!
