After much anticipation, the location for the third season of the satirical television show, "The White Lotus," has been officially announced as Thailand. Created, written, and directed by Mike White for HBO, the series delves into themes of privilege, race, and class, as the personal lives of its characters unravel amidst the picturesque tropical setting.
The show's creator, Mike White, and his team are said to be heading to the Southeast Asian country for the new season. The previous seasons were set in Hawaii and Sicily, respectively. While an HBO representative declined to comment, Variety suggests that the Four Seasons resort chain in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle may be potential filming locations. In a clip shared at the end of the second season of The White Lotus, creator Mike White hinted at the theme for the third season, saying that it would be a satirical and humorous exploration of death and Eastern religion and spirituality. He also suggested that this new focus could provide ample material for another season of the show, following on from the themes of wealth and sex that were explored in the previous two seasons.
At this time, details about the plot and cast of the upcoming season of The White Lotus remain scarce. As an anthology series, each season features a self-contained story, unconnected to previous seasons, with a new cast of characters and plotlines. However, rumours suggest that Jennifer Coolidge may reprise her role as "Tanya," given creator Mike White's affinity for the character. Fans eagerly await news on the show's direction, with a completely new cast (with the possible exception of Coolidge), setting, and storyline.
