Universal Pictures made a splash at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas by presenting a sneak peek of their upcoming projects. The studio previewed a diverse slate of films, including Dreamworks Animation's "Trolls Band Together" and "Kung Fu Panda 4," and Universal's "Migration" and "Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken."
Mike White, writer of HBO's "The White Lotus," has penned "Migration," a movie about a family of ducks on a road trip. The star-studded cast includes Kumail Nanjiani and Elizabeth Banks voicing the parents, and Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Carol Kane, Keegan-Michael Key, and David Mitchell also starring. Meanwhile, "Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken" is an intergenerational story directed by Kirk DeMicco, featuring Lana Condor and Jane Fonda as voice actors. It follows a shy teenager who discovers she comes from a family of legendary sea Kraken.
Dreamworks Animation enlisted the help of Jack Black, Anna Kendrick, and Justin Timberlake to promote their upcoming projects. "Kung Fu Panda 4," set to release on March 8, 2024, will see Po (voiced by Black) becoming the spiritual leader of his Valley of Peace while also training a new kung fu practitioner and confronting a villain named the Chameleon. Kendrick and Timberlake introduced "Trolls Band Together," the third instalment in the franchise, set to hit theatres on November 17.
Universal's President of Marketing, Michael Moses, commented on the studio's strategy to bring fresh content to audiences. "We continue to prioritize the theatrical experience and bring stories to the big screen that audiences can enjoy together," he said.
With a strong slate of films, Universal Pictures looks poised to make a significant impact on the box office in the coming years.
