Sony Pictures has officially announced that “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” will hit theaters on January 16, 2025. This marks the second chapter in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s anticipated zombie apocalypse trilogy.
The announcement follows the recent release of the teaser trailer for “28 Years Later” - the long-awaited sequel to the 2002 cult hit “28 Days Later.” The film, slated for release on June 20, 2025, showcases a new cast like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and more.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, with scripts penned by Boyle and Garland, the films were shot back-to-back, promising a sprawling narrative that picks up decades after the Rage Virus devastated the U.K. The teaser trailer offers a chilling glimpse of the outbreak’s early days and hints at the survivors’ harsh new reality on a remote island.
“The Bone Temple” is expected to deepen the post-apocalyptic lore, with the official synopsis teasing a return of the Rage Virus and the fight for survival against the infected.
Boyle and Garland are producing alongside Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernard Bellew, with Cillian Murphy also serving as an executive producer. Horror fans won't have to wait for this next grim chapter.
