The new live action “Barbie” movie is soon premiering. It is going to hit theaters on July 21, 2023. The movie is directed by the talented Greta Gerwig.
Actors starring in the film include Margot Robbie (Barbie), Ryan Gosling (Ken), Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey and Kate McKinnon. The movie follows Barbie and Ken as they enter the real world and the obstacles they have to face on their journey.
Although the film is directed by such a famous director, and the cast is star-studded, Margot Robbie has revealed that there was one condition that had to be met if she was supposed to star as Barbie.
The condition that had to be met was that the cast would be diverse. That this was very important to Margot Robbie, was clear in an interview with Time, where she said: “I don’t think I would have wanted to attempt to make a [non-diverse] Barbie film. I don’t think you should say, ‘This is the one version of what Barbie is, and that’s what women should aspire to be and look like and act like.’”
In the trailer we can see dozens of Barbies and Kens in Barbieland. There it is clear that this condition was met, as there is a lot of diversity amongst Barbie’s and Ken’s.
This will surely give us a new look at the Barbie doll and awaken nostalgia amongst many viewers that have once played with the famous doll. With a star-studded cast and Greta Gerwig as the director, this film is set to be a success.
