The New Prequel “Queen Charlotte” Hits Netflix Top 10

The new Netflix series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” premiered on May 4, 2023. The series is a prequel to the “Bridgerton”series. During the first week it picked up 22 million views. It consists of 6 episodes and quickly landed on Netflix Top 10.

Netflix’s Bela Bajaria, who is the head of global TV, spoke about the movie alongside the initial announcement of the prequel. She said the following: “Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton”.

Shonda Rhimes is the main writer of the show “Queen Charlotte”. In the main series “Bridgerton”, Rhimes only served as an executive producer, hence this is her first time being directly involved in the writing of the series. The producers of the prequel are Betsy Beers and Tom Verica. They have worked with Shonda Rhimes on previous projects such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How To Get Away with Murder”.

The cast consists of actors including India Ria Amarteifio (Young Queen Charlotte), Katie Brayben (Vivian Ledger), Keir Charles (Lord Ledger), Sam Clemmett (Young Brimsley) and Richard Cunningham (Lord Bute). Some faces from the original “Bridgerton” series do also appear such as: Golda Rosheuval (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton).

The prequel rewinds the clock and shows how Queen Charlotte became the iconic character that she is in the “Bridgerton” series. There is no wonder why fans of the “Bridgerton” series are binge watching “Queen Charlotte” and why it became such a hit for Netflix.
