The opening dance sequence in Deadpool & Wolverine almost didn't make it to the film. A last-minute decision to use NSYNC's song led to its inclusion during production. Initially, a different boy band was considered. In the scene, Deadpool disrespects Logan's grave, uses Logan's adamantium skeleton to defeat TVA agents, and dances to NSYNC's hit song.
In an interview with MovieWeb, the editors of "Deadpool & Wolverine" shared that the first dance sequence almost included a popular Backstreet Boys track. The original film version had a different vibe, opening with Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" in all pre-visualizations. During production, editors Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Shawn Levy decided that ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" was unsuitable for the scene as the film's mood changed.
"We had around seven or eight songs that we considered for that," Reid added. Eventually, the selection was narrowed down to two top choices: NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" and a popular Backstreet Boys track. Dean Zimmerman noted, "I believe we included a Backstreet Boys song in the mix."" The ultimate decision on the song was made by a select group of collaborators involved in the film," Zimmerman clarified: We conducted a brief test with a small group of trusted individuals in the production, and NSYNC emerged as the clear favorite within just one hour.
