The Order - review without spoilers

With the spectacular Jude Law back on screen in an unusual role for him, Justin Kurzel's new film tells the story of an FBI agent who, in 1983, begins to notice a common thread in a series of robberies and explosions in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

A taste of the plot

Terry Husk, the protagonist, is an agent specialized in investigations into the mafia and criminal organizations, who wants to prove that these events are the work of an organized and motivated group of right-wing extremists, planning to go to war with the U.S. government. The only agent in the area willing to help him is Jamie Bowen, played by Tye Sheridan, who becomes his buddy during their investigation.

The struggle between good and evil is at the center of the entire plot and perfect for the role of the leader of this extremist group is Nicholas Hoult, who plays Bob Matthews, a young, mad man but also beloved by his followers, with a malicious yet lost look, frightening but also afraid.

The events are based on the true story of the neo-Nazi terrorist organization The Order, and the film is based on the 1989 book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt.

The film, a thriller almost turned into a contemporary western, features many dynamic and thrilling action scenes, from the very first minutes to the last frame. With an exceptional cast and a deep opening monologue, we immerse ourselves in this story that is both past and present, not very distant from what continues to happen in every era: violent and ignorant white men taking out their frustration, dissatisfaction, and unhappiness on others, using hate and violence to try to make sense of their own existence.

Regardless of how well the film is received, whether more or less appreciated,, the film conveys an important, timely, and recurring message, making it definitely worth watching if you're interested in the subject.
