The Wicked movie will be split into two parts!

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are ready to define gravity but way longer than expected.

The movie adaptation of the popular (no pun intended) Broadway musical Wicked is been in the making for quite a while now: the show follows the growth and adventures of Elphaba, the green-skinned Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West, alongside her friend and Good Witch Glinda, played respectively by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

Apparently, the movie will contain at least three brand new choreography numbers and obviously the entire score of the musical, with the iconic “The Wizard and I,” “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”

Now the director, Jon Chu, has set the bar even higher announcing not one but TWO movies dedicated to the Green Witch: as said in the post, they tried to shape the story to fit into one movie, unsuccessfully; so in order to avoid fatal compromises and real damage to the brilliant musical, they went for a bigger project.

The first movie will come out on Christmas 2024, and the second one sometime around 2025!

Chu said they are thrilled “to offer a fantastical world full of dynamic characters that invites in those who are unfamiliar”. All sent from the OzPhone!
