While ‘House of Gucci’ is only a few days away from its official debut, we may have found another reason to thank Mr. Ridley Scott. In fact, it may be because of him if we will be able to have another chapter of the iconic ‘The Gladiator’.
Despite being very busy with several films out and about, he found the time to confirm the screenplay for the new adventure of Maximus Decimus Meridius and we already know that he will start shooting the sequel of ‘The Gladiator’ after finishing ‘Kitbag’ where the majestic Joaquin Phoenix will be playing Napoleon.
During an interview for Deadline, Ridley Scott declared that the screenplay is by Peter Craig and he also added: “it’s been written. It’s already been written. We have a good footprint, a good, logical place to go [...] You can’t just do another Gladiator type movie. You’ve got to follow… there’s enough components from the first one to pick up the ball and continue it”.
Even though we don’t have a release date yet, it has been already announced that the protagonist will be Lucius, son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodo, beautifully played by Joaquin Phoenix in the first Gladiator. The story will take place 25, 30 years after the events of the first film, but some of the actors who had openly expressed their interest in the project, such as Chris Hemsworth, have not been confirmed yet.
Let’s get ready for the unleash of Hell, people! We can’t wait to find out more!
