This year is the 78th annual Venice International Film Festival and will be held from 1 to 11 September 2021. The festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera and will take place at Venice Lido. The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue.
The line-up includes the following sections: Venezia 78, Out of Competition, Orizzonti and Biennale College-Cinema.
The Golden Lion is the highest and finest prize given to a film at the Venice Film Festival. The prize was introduced in 1949 by the organizing committee and is now regarded as one of the film industryäs most prestigious and distinguished prizes. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to Roberto Bengigni, an Italian director, known for the movie Pinocchio and much more. The second Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to American actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
